Council Member Elizabeth Crowley (D-30, Queens), along with State Senator Joe Addabbo (D-15, Queens), Council Member Diana Reyna (D-34, Brooklyn), Assembly Members Cathy Nolan (D-37, Ridgewood) and Mike Miller (D-38, Glendale) as well as the Peter Cardella seniors honor Peter and Providenza Cardella’s 70th Wedding Anniversary. At the celebration, Council Members Elizabeth Crowley and Diana Reyna presentated Mr. and Mrs. Cardella with a New York City Council Proclamation for their commitment and service to each other and to the people of the City of New York.

Elizabeth Crowley, Council Member of the 30th District, Diana Reyna, Council Member of 34th District, are proud to honor Peter and Providenza Cardella in celebration of their 70 years of love and commitment; and
WHEREAS: Wedding anniversaries provide special opportunities to reaffirm and celebrate the significance of marriage as a binding public commitment between two individuals that strengthens the foundation for families, children and communities; and
WHEREAS: Marriage is both a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutual respect, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family. It universally signifies a level of selflessness and responsibility and a stage of life unlike any other; and
WHEREAS: Peter and Providenza were married in 1941 and over the course of their 70 years of matrimony, their love for one another has continued to grow in both depth and dimension. Their marriage has been blessed with two children, Joseph (deceased) and Kathleen; three grandchildren: Francine (deceased), Madeline, and Toni Ann; and three great-grandsons: Peter Angelo, James Michael, and Anthony Joseph; and
WHEREAS: Peter and Providenza are to be commended for their devotion to each other as well as to their family and their community.
WHEREAS: Peter and Providenza have truly enriched us with their love and commitment and they are worthy of the esteem of all New Yorkers; now, therefore

In 2008 Council Member Elizabeth Crowley was elected to represent the 30th Council District covering the Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Richmond Hill, Ridgewood, and Woodhaven neighborhoods. Elizabeth was the first female and first Democrat elected to represent that seat. She has chaired the Fire & Criminal Justice Services Committee since January 2010 which oversees the Fire Department, Department of Correction, Department of Probation, and Criminal Justice Coordinator’s Office.
