Statement from Elizabeth Crowley Regarding O’Neill’s Restaurant
On May 2, 2011, a fire gutted O’Neill’s, a staple in the Maspeth community. Council Member Elizabeth Crowley gave the following statement: “O’Neill’s Restaurant has been a staple in Maspeth and has served the people of Queens for almost a century. Last night’s tragic fire was a loss for the whole community and serves as a reminder that, no matter how bad the budget is, it remains critically important to protect our fire services.”

Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, with COMET and the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, hosted Honor Earth Day, a recycling fair that took place on Saturday from 1p.m. to 5p.m. in the parking lot of the Maspeth Federal Saving Bank. Residents from all over the community came by to: recycle their old electronics with e-Green Managment; dispose of junk mail and sensitive documents in a safe and environmental way; donate 30 bags of old clothing and textiles to Wearable Clothing Collections. In 2008 Council Member Elizabeth Crowley was elected to represent the 30th Council District covering the Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Richmond Hill, Ridgewood, and Woodhaven neighborhoods. Elizabeth was the first female and first Democrat elected to represent that seat. She has chaired the Fire & Criminal Justice Services Committee since January 2010 which oversees the Fire Department, Department of Correction, Department of Probation, and Criminal Justice Coordinator’s Office.
