Fire and Criminal Justice

Our city firefighters and corrections officers work tirelessly to make sure that New Yorkers are protected. As Chair of the Fire and Criminal Justice Committee, Council Member Elizabeth Crowley has made it a priority to ensure that they are here to stay. When the Bloomberg Administration’s proposed budget included the closing of up to 20 fire companies, Elizabeth led a fierce campaign which included 15 rallies and numerous editorials. Ultimately, alongside Speaker Christine C. Quinn, her colleagues on the City Council, local civic groups, and residents across the City, the $37 million needed to save the fire companies was restored.
